Expedition Sponsorship

The Joint Mongolian-Russian-American Archaeological Expeditions have been supported by a wide variety of foundations and educational institutions since 1995. The establishment of the Je Tsongkhapa Endowment for Central and Inner Asian Archaeology at the University of Arizona in 2004 created a permanent income stream that supports the Expeditions’ principal field and laboratory activities and provides limited student fellowships. Nonetheless, cumulative foundation and endowment support, while generous, does not cover all the Expeditions’ annual expenses, especially where student participation is concerned.

This deficit is overcome each year through public and corporate sponsorship since steadily diminishing government and foundation resources in the U.S. directed toward international scientific research necessitates that archaeologists increasingly rely on the private sector for supplemental support.
